Njagala mbe mu abo by St. Cecilia Lubaga Cathedral Choir – Kampala Uganda

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

Njagala mbe mu abo is a Luganda Gospel song meaning I want to be counted among those who will sit at the right hand of God on judgement day. Luganda is a Bantu language spoken in central Uganda in East Africa. Much of the Gospel music used in praise and worship in Churches is in this languange widely spoken in Uganda.
In the song the choristers of St. Cecilia Lubaga Cathedral Choir try to imagine the moment when each of them meets God and is counted among the Blessed one’s in Heaven.
ABOUT THE CHOIR: Founded in 1924, St. Cecilia Lubaga Cathedral Choir is the major and eldest choir in Uganda and in the Archdiocese of Kampala.
It is made up of 120 members including youths, men and women. They are all volunteers who leave their private businesses to serve the Lord. They compose and perform music during all liturgical gatherings.
Membership for new choristers is open to all people who love music and wish to offer their time for the greater Glory of God’s name.
On their own, the choristers would not evangelise through sacred melodies if it were not for the diligent moral, financial, spiritual and various forms of support and contributions.

En Karma & Malkit Singh MBE @ Las Vegas 2011

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

So the story goes… We arrived in Vegas on a chilly but well lit night. Upon arrival, we were escorted to an artist’s reception held at what looked to be like P Diddy’s Palace, overlooking a lake with surrounding palm trees. WOW….. The contrast is just amazing, as one minute you’re at home packing a suitcase, the next you’re sitting beside a pool chatting with the King of Bhangra. We could go on about how memorable this night was for us but the ultimate highlight was getting to know Malkit Singh on more of a personal level. His successes lie in the fact that he is not only a talented and accomplished performer but an overall genuine and kind person.

When Malkit Singh asked us to join him onstage, a nervous excitement flooded En Karma’s veins… Who are we to say no?

Enjoy Everything else remains in Vegas ;)

Stay tuned for our performance at the 2011 Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration (VIBC) with Shin of DCS www.vibc.org

Ken! (The Ken Song – Corrie / Coronation Street) by William Roache MBE / Harry Hill

Harry Hill off of Harry Hill’s TV Burp did a homage to Kenneth Barlow, the longest serving character of ITV’s Coronation Street.

Off of the forthcoming album:
Funny Times by Harry Hill

Wikipedia Character Profile of Kenneth Barlow:

Kenneth “Ken” Barlow is a long-standing fictional character in the UK television ITV soap opera, Coronation Street. Portrayed by William Roache MBE, he is the only remaining character from the first episode of the series in 1960, having appeared in it continuously from its inception. Ken has fathered four children, including twins Susan and Peter Barlow, Daniel Osbourne and recently discovered illegitimate child, Lawrence Cunningham. He also adopted Tracy Barlow, his third wife Deirdre’s daughter by her ex-husband Ray Langton. The character has also been a teacher, a newspaper editor, a community activist, a trolley-pusher at a supermarket and a Father Christmas portrayer, before returning to teaching and writing. He has been married four times, widowed twice, and divorced once, and has had 27 girlfriends.

Background

Ken has appeared in Coronation Street since December 1960 and is the only character of the original cast that still appears. In the soap’s early years, Ken was frequently presented as resenting what he saw as the anti-intellectual, repressed climate around him. A scathing article he wrote for a newspaper led to clashes with his father and a Rovers punch-up with Len Fairclough (Peter Adamson). Ken never stopped standing up for what he believed was right but as time passed, he grew to love the street and the people who lived on it. Ken drives a blue Skoda Favorit hatchback. He is incredibly unreliable and often received scathing comments from acid-tongued mother-in-law Blanche Hunt.

Personality and identity

The character has a reputation amongst the viewers as boring and a man of morals. Roache said of his character during an interview for a book based on the show in 1991: “He is a man of integrity who fights for what he thinks is right”, the author Graeme Kay, who along with Roache talked about the character evolution within the show, wrote: “He began as a bit of a prig, in the eyes of working-class father Frank, but matured into a sound family man, only to go astray. He changed from teacher to news paper owner, through various jobs, but threw that away too. He has always liked to see himself as a big fish in a small pond, with his steely, domineering manner and feeling of superior intellect.”. In 2007, Virgin Media made an article on the history of the soap opera which stated, “Perhaps unfairly dubbed boring, Ken is ultimately an intelligent man, frustrated by the cards life has dealt him — although the hair, clothes and strong morals haven’t helped.” He is the Street’s resident intellectual who’s never quite managed to break free from his roots.

Relationships

ITV publicity made a point about how many relationships and flings he has had with women when asked about his love life, stating “This could take a while… Ken has had more girlfriends than most of the Street’s male residents put together.” Along with his four wives, the character has had a total of 27 girlfriends, including a character played by the now famous actress Joanna Lumley.
