Why is there still such thing as an MBE?

When there’s NO British empire any more and never will be again ?

Royalty is hanging on to their throne by their finger nails everywhere in Europe. People just do not want to support them anymore for the excesses they are notorious for. An mbe is just a candy to keep the public sweet. "Sir Mick"… gimme a brake.

It’s more of a recognition thing. Similar to how they still have a queen.

Many countries still have The Queen of England as their head of state and proud to do so, you could always receive the purple heart instead if the new imperialists would accept you.

I agree with the "British Empire" thing – 100%, and personally, am ashamed over how we "conqured" other countries, what made the "Great" part of "Great Britain"? The fact that "we" "took over" other countries? There’s nothing great about that! Having said all this, obviously, I’m saying this from "today’s" perspective", obviously, there was a different political mentality in the past, such as burning witches at the stake, banishing "subjects" to Australia, etc.

Whilst the MBE is no longer "accurate" in terms of the Empire "thing", I think and 10000% feel that citizens should be recognised for their hard work…. However, I think that the whole UK Honours system needs a SERIOUS rethink… it’s like people get honours just because of the job that they do (Admirals, Senior Civil Servants – as if they don’t have enough with their salaries…), or how much they give to a political party in power – that’s NOT what the system was intended to be, it’s been very much perverted over the years. I believe that the "humble" MBE’s (and some OBE’s) deserve their honour much, much more than the "Big Wigs" (with notable exceptions – Lord Sugar, etc – but, again – that’s debateable)… I know that the public have some input into the Honours system, but it’s a "Lip Service" only – who gives the "Lordships", the "Sirs", etc? – erm the Government. It should be a 100% public involved system, but then so should a lot of other things in this country. Democracy? Yeah? Maybe every 5 years, if we can be bothered, I’m just so disillusioned by the whole process…. I’m 42, but remember at aged 18, being very much into politics, and wanting to be fully involved in the (supposed) democratic process, but, alas, no more. The whole episode of the expenses scandal demonstrates to me what total hypocrites they all are…. excuses such as "the system allowed it" – guess they were thinking about themselves first before us tax paying public. Some didn’t even resign immediately, they waited until the General Election and "faded away" – some might say "hypocrytical scum of the worst kind – we trusted you", I couldn’t possibly comment…NOT!
